Carol Gulleckson (Trygstad)

Carol Trygstad

April 05, 1948 - March 08, 2021

Carol was born on April 5, 1948 to Harold and Lois (Skow) Gulleckson at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She left this earthly domain on March 8, 2021 while residing at the Hospice House of Sanford Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.

As a 1966 graduate of Fergus Falls High School, Carol attended Alexandria Technical College in Alexandria, Minnesota, where she was certified as a Medical Laboratory Assistant. During her 44 years of employment in Fergus Falls, Detroit Lakes and St. Peter, Minnesota, she received her certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician and served in a supervisory role for several years at both St. Peter Clinic and Mankato Clinic in St. Peter.

On March 20, 1971 Carol was united in marriage to Curtis Trygstad. At that time they established residence in Detroit Lakes, MN. A couple of years later they were blessed with their first child, Greta. In 1978 they moved to Lake Park, MN where they were blessed with a second child, John. In 1988 Curt and Carol moved to St. Peter, Minnesota. As members of First Lutheran Church, both Curt and Carol sang in the choir for the next 25 years. In 2013, Curt and Carol made their final move to Fargo, North Dakota, in order to be closer to their parents, as well as Greta and her family.

Over her lifetime, Carol was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting, drawing and painting, nurturing her flowers, her children and her relationships with good friends. Carol often accompanied Curt on business trips around the country; especially when he was able to connect those trips with some vacation time. Curt and Carol also enjoyed many trips out to Arizona to spend time with John and his family.

Carol will be dearly missed by those who have survived her: her husband Curt; her children Greta (Matthew) Kiser and John (Stephanie); her five grandsons Luke, Max, Cyrus, Sidney and Wallace; her sister Jan (Jerry) Flatin; along with countless number of friends and neighbors whose lives she touched along her life journey.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held for Carol at Hope Lutheran Church – South Campus at 3636 25th St. South in Fargo on Saturday, May 8. The service will begin at 10:30 AM, with a lunch to follow

I am so very sorry to hear about Carol.  Her name was instantly recognized as we attended Adams grade school together in the 50s.  Went through grades 1-6 with her.  Very sweet, gentle person.  I pray the Lord Jesus comfort her husband and family as they mourn her.

I'm so sorry to hear about Carol.  We were next door neighbors all through our school years in Fergus. We Car pooled to Senior High together with Betty Hanson.  So many good memories.  Recently the Fergus Journal online version showed a picture of her and I having our polio shots when we were in first grade at Adams school and it brought back so many memories.  I'm sure Dick Richards remembers that too.  She was the nicest person you could want to know and will be greatly missed.  She was a good friend.

Carol was a wonderful person.

I always felt a great kinship with her.

May God bless her soul.

Decades after we all graduated from high school, I was in the dining room at the Mill Street Assisted Living when I heard my name being spoken. It was Carol. I asked her how she knew it was me. She said that she recognized my voice. She said she remembered voices.  At the time her father and my mother were residents at Mill Street.  From time to time we would meet when we both happened to be visiting our parents.

I cannot pin her to any specific memory from high school. I only remembered that I liked her and spent time around her.
