Charles “Chuck” Ray Douglas, 62, of Erhard, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at his home.
Charles was born on June 26, 1948, along with his twin sister, Charlene, to Lawrence and Leah Douglas in Minneapolis. In 1950, the family, including an older set of twins, moved to eastern Montana to ranch country. The family then moved to a farm near Erhard in 1953, where Charles attended School District 1492, and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1966.
He then completed two years of diesel mechanic training at the Alexandria Technical and Community College, graduating in 1968.
On June 20, 1968, he was drafted into the United States Army where he was activated to serve in Vietnam before being wounded and honorably discharged in April of 1970.
For his faithful service to his country, he received the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Vietnam Campaign and Sharpshooter Medal.
After his military discharge, Charles worked in construction for many years in Minneapolis and moved to his home in Erhard in 1983.
Charles loved God and enjoyed reading his Bible. He had great mechanical ability and enjoyed working on his cars, motorcycles and snowmobiles. He also enjoyed loving and taking care of his many dogs over the years.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Lawrence and Leah Douglas.
Charles is survived by Milton (Karen) Douglas of Buffalo, S.D; Marilynn (Michael) White of Cottrellville, Mich.; Charlene (Donald) Howard of Helena, Mont.; Nancy (Dennis) Koerner of Audubon; Philip (Patricia) Douglas of rural Erhard; Roberta (Bernard) Strauch of Fergus Falls; Patricia (Christopher) Daniels of Princeton; Timothy (Chela) Douglas of Lamar, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 1 p.m. Wednesday, at Life Church, Fergus Falls
Clergy: Revs. Patrick Herzog and Milton Douglas
Burial: Oak Grove Cemetery, Fergus Falls
